Anderson House QLD

The “Backyard Box” is an architectural response to the client’s need for additional program, after their application to demolish their existing dwelling was rejected. The north facing to street dwelling suffered from non compliant boundary setbacks, so minimal disruption to the existing building reduced the potential for unanticipated challenges and allowed the majority of the budget to be spent on new construction instead. The new box contains new living areas with direct access to the garden and bedrooms while the existing house had modifications to create additional bedrooms, bathroom and off street parking. A two storey void over the living area and outdoor room, is a sun filled volume courtesy of high level north oriented glazing, maximizing solar access to these areas.
