Sydney Light Rail NSW

DC8 Studio was invited into one of the bid teams for the Sydney Light Rail extension project in 2014, tasked with a very challenging deliverable of improving the project bid by a minimum of 10%. The SLR project was valued at approximately $1.5Bn. A 10% improvement meant we needed to find a way to add $150m of value to the project. By the time the bid was lodged we had identified some $220m of value add to the project. 

Our methodology was to study three of the project sites that, with careful and considered design, would allow for an integrated development outcome that combined the critical components of Light Rail infrastructure and residential development. This process saw us produce designs for residential development over the maintenance yards at Rozelle, the stabling yards at Randwick and a student-housing scheme for the Surry Hills station.

The Sydney Light Rail project is a very good example of the critical design thinking we apply to our projects in
